By what Paulete @ CVR said, they're supposed to start paving the track this week it should take 3 days to complete...

They've already paved the paddock...

Hey Jay, would this be a good track for Sumo types?

Hey Jay, would this be a good track for Sumo types?

To tell you the truth, I don't know... The map I've seen of the track doesn't show the longest straights lenght. But the track does have a lot of turns (15?) including a bowl!

I'll send Paulete at Chuckwalla a message for Micky to give his opinion on the track & sumos.

Hey Jay, would this be a good track for Sumo types?

I have been told the longest straight is just over a 1/4 of a mile long.

I know some people ride sumo at Pahrump, that back straight is 1/2 of a mile long there.

on another note: they just finished paving Chuckwalla... :yippy

My review...

We got the the day before around 2:30pm, there was a car event going on there... they have a huge paddock. it a little bit windy, but being a regular Willow Springs the wind was no big deal... we all hung out and talked to Micky for a while and as the Car track event ended we move into our spots setting up camp & looking around... Nancy & I rode our bicycles around the track, while there were a few people taking a crash truck ride around the track. and a few people walking or riding skate boards around it as well... Micky gave a few people rides at speed in his vet... the TrackXperience Staff BBQ'd lots of yummy food, Rob was rocking the mouth watering carne asada & I cooked up some tri tip steaks! Me and my wife slept in the back of my truck I was too hot sleeping in my sleeping bag so I more or less slept on top of my sleeping bag with a blanket over me. the wind was pretty noisy whipping the canopies around so it kept us up 1/2 the night.

I when I got up the sky was nice and clear, a little bit of wind, but not bad.
They had 5 port-a-potties, look like they serviced them last on the 6th go the service log showed, so they weren't smelling too bad. There is a water spicket by the port-a-potties

There is no P.A. system yet, so announcements were made using a bull horn.

We started putting the new TrackXperience instructors vest into duty.

We ran the track counter clockwise under advice from Micky.

of course most all of the instructors were the first onto the track, my 1st impressions were man this track just flows very well. The track has a few challenges to keep you thinking and wanting more.

there was a brief rain storm (45mins?) that just blew on through, some people keep riding like myself, which you had to be perfectly smooth to ride in the ride on DOTs, I did have a couple WOAH! moments but not bad... right after the rain stop we shut down the track for a little bit and got the hair dryers out on the track, and we were green the rest of the day!

I believe we only had 2 crashes, no one seriously hurt (bumps and bruises only) not from the rain and none of them in the infamous off camber turn 9.

Favorites: I love the turn 12/11 combo (in the direction we ran the track, it's going up hill hard right, as it plateaus into a blind mild left turn, I love the double apex turns!

The Bowl is interesting... there are a few ways to take it, it has lots of room across it you can carry lots of speed to pass slower riders that are taking a line around the bottom while your at the top.

This is a perfect spring/fall track, perfect riding weather there!

not so favorites: There's a little bit of bumpiness at the bottom of the bowl, not a big deal since you can just stay out about 2-3 feet, and it's perfectly smooth!

no restrooms (which Micky said the next phase will be puting in garages & restroom!)

I'm hoping with more people going out there, it will attract more businesses out that way, like grocery stores, gas stations & hotels... there ain't shit out there, but a lonely cafe????

and finally... A super big A++++++++++ to Micky for building an very great track! I can't wait to get back out there!:thumb

picture is of me in the rain

Just so everyone knows who the slow guy was...

http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss151/DarrenPickering/cvr5-1.jpg

....it was me!!!! LOL!

What a cracking track!!.....I agree with Jay...the turn 12/11 combo was a blast..then you get to nail it down the straight to the 10/9/8 section...that one was tough - blow 10 and you're screwed. Too bad I didn't get to chat with you, Jay...I'll be booking Streets though, so look forward to a natter then.

Sorry...meant to ask - what was the reasoning behind running the track counter-clockwise???

Jayfooey
04-14-2010, 08:14 PM
Micky, the track owner... said it was easier to see through the turns... or something to that effect, so we took his advice
