... at least according to JDP and Associates. I've never heard a motorcycle dealer that offer test rides before or that's because I haven't shopped around much.

"But the biggie is money. Fifty-seven percent of prospective buyers mentioned pricing (and I'm assuming they're not complaining because the price was too low), and 16 percent had issues with a lack of incentives -- like rebates or special finance deals. Another 23 percent of shoppers mentioned high maintenance costs as a reason they did not buy."

Not so much in CA, but in other states across the country I have heard of Test Rides from dealerships.

While I was at the LB Motorcycle show, I was looking at the new Kawi ZX6 and the guy happened to be from Del Amo Motorsports (right near my house) and he said he'd hook me up with a test ride. I didn't know it WASN'T a common practice.

The only time I've been offered a test ride was when I called a Ducati "too high maintenance for me." So, maybe dealers need reverse psychology wielded against them? :laughing2

Mission does test rides, just not on sportbikes. although if you want to ride a rc8 you are welcome to come by on sunday, there will be demos.

I don't know the official statistics, but at least in the majority of the general population (particpated in that survey) associates a "motorcycles" with chrome: HD or another cruiser. The second type of motorcycle known to the general population are tourers. e.g. BMW offers test-rides.

I was able to get a test ride on the 675 before I bought it. It was from a Triumph and BMW dealer, so their demographic isn't necessarily the same as a shop that is mostly Big 4 sportbikes.

That was the same deal pretty much when I worked at dealerships. People start getting very particular when you start putting miles on a bike and ask for a discount. Japanese manufacturers dont give any kickback for making a unit available for test ride.

When I was looking at my first ZX-10r in '04, the dealer in Riverside (University I think) let me do a test ride. I had to sign a waiver and took one of the salesman's bikes.....went for 45 minutes and discovered it wasn't the fire breathing dragon everyone was making it out to be....Rode my Katana there, rode it for a while, then rode home....Mission was in Mission Viejo and they wouldn't let me ride it...I called John and told him he lost a sale...

I bought my 2005 GSX-R1000 without test riding it. Possibly the best motorcycle purchase decision I made in my life.
Bought my last bike without riding it, but that's because I love the way it looks. Yes, I am shallow like that. That being said, had I had the chance to test each liter bike out there I might have gone differently with my purchase.

I have never test ridden a new bike because I couldn't ever get a test ride, that didn't stop me from buying one, but it sure left me disappointed with a couple after I rode them away.

Yeah, shame on you for being shallow. You should have bought a used Ninja 250 and ride it to its limit. Cause a pro can spank you on the track on his 125.
BUY THE BIKE YOU WANT! PRUDENT CHOICES SUCK.

BMW & a few Ducati dealers let you test ride the bikes. When i bought a R1 one time the dealer did no want me to test ride they finally did though when i told them i was going to the dealer down the street to buy it if they didnt.

The dealerships in Iowa let me test ride their bikes, but I signed soemthing that said if I broke it, I bought it.
On the other hand, the street demos at Femmoto were only $25 for all you could ride all day (boy or girl). So that's how I know I like the Kawi over the 'Zuki. Yay!

I don't think I'd buy another bike without test riding...
I mean I bought my 250 but it's not like there's many other bikes in competition with it.
But there's a lot of bikes I'd be considering in something else and want to know first hand the differences and feel.
