But it could help out quite a bit, probably, to get an instructor to watch and coach me a tad for a session or two...

since you'll be runnin' the bike track on the 600, yes, get the boyz to go over the lines, gearing and apexes with you and you should feel a little more knowledgeable out there. good thing to do is get the track map, draw where your shift points are, your lines, braking markers and apex points, work it in practice....see ya out there.

I think you understood correctly. I have no Big Willow experience...no 600 experience. I am only "novice" because I did enough riding at Streets between last month and back in '08. Does that mean I can run novice at the Big Track. I'm sure I'll be alright...just slow. :notooth

I'm anxious for Friday. You are right, though, there should be many riders out on Friday who can help me out. Hopefully at least one of 'em will. :)

Might want to check if you need to take the nrs again at the big track. When the streets was a separate series I took it there and had to take it again to run the big track (although they didn't make me pay for it). Would be beneficial to do it again if you can since they go over lines and such but especially some safety points specific to the big track that might save your bacon someday. If not some of Dustins staff can get you up to speed . . . pun intended. Take your time and have fun.

You do have to have a current 2010 WSMC Novice Competition License to run WSMC race events on Sunday.

As posted above, check with them (661.256.1234 iirc) and see what you might need to do.

Plausible possiblity: he can afford the license this month...and in another month or two, can afford to race... Not everyone can afford a full-blown race weekend along with NRS and all that up front. I see nothing wrong with paying as you go if this is the case.

agreed...was only curious cause he said he couldn't afford the track day. it can be a chunk 'o change up front to NRS it, practice saturday & race on sunday in the new 'n improved "new racers race" since it involves race prepping the bike (or renting a Ninja that weekend), hotel, food,m broken bits that just happen to occur for some strange reason, blah blah blah (all those *little* racing extra costs). i paced it out too, FWIW, managed to get a good track bike at a steal right after NRS that got me on my way but was still missing the do-dahs like tire warmers, stands, transponder, et al.

feel free to find the West Coast GP Cycles team up in Turn 1, always a lot of parking up there, at least come by and say *hi*. only downside to Turn 1 is that you're a tad far from the classroom but exercise is good for ya :) good luck tomorrow!

I will give you one word of advice, patience. Keep in mind its a school and not race. Take in all you can from the instructors and ask lots of questions if you need to. Take your time to build up your speed and just have a good time.

+1 keep in up on two, there's no need to run any faster than safely to meet the time requirement. you'll have plenty of races in your future where you can twist the throttle out there, so you want to get your license in order to do so. there's no one to impress, they've seen it all before LOL an erratic unsafe red mist rider isn't what they want to see out there.
