View Full Version : War on Drugs: Giant waste of time?

Your thoughts on legalizing some or all "Narcotics"?

With the millions we spend each year on "fighting" the war on drugs and ostensibly losing, would it be better to focus more on treatment and regulation? Since a good % of the country already smokes weed, should we handle weed differently from Heroin or Meth?

Should we decriminalize it in certain amounts? Or lighten possession and non-violent drug sentencing? Should the government regulate it and make it available in pharmacies and tax it for revenue generation on a sin tax model?

this is going to be a fun thread.

I am in favor of abandoning drug laws. None of this make it legal to smoke but illegal to distribute or grow nonsense, talk about stupid.

Just regarding marijuana, more lives have been destroyed by the drug's legal status than by the drug itself.

That's all for now, I'll be back.

personally i think most all drugs should be legalized, taxed and regulated.
maybe not available in pharmacies but i could see the outcome leading to it.

most def weed though, its so harmless and so commonly used there's no good reason why its still illegal. maybe not legalize meth/heroin/crack right away but thats a tough one. i dont think there would be a good way to distinguish good from bad drugs easily without alot of unintended consequences.

"The War on Drugs is bullshit! It's just another way of putting more motherfuckers in jail, that's all it is!" -Chris Rock

I'm not sure i want packs of heroin being sold at the local bodega/liquor store, but stop putting people into overcrowded jail for possession charges. It's a waste of time and money. Legalize (at least the marijuana trade) dealing to cut down on violent turf wars and undermine the cartels.

There was a statistic in Haper's Magazine one year that showed the total amout of money spent by the US Gvmt to destroy crops is columbia and how many acres were destroyed. And a second statistic that showed how many acres will destroyed by some beatle. I wish I could find it.... But you can imagine, we are just wasting tons of money

They need to legalize marijuana and they can keep fighting the rest. Wait....... add schrooms to the legal list. :fingersx

Weed should be legal for sure. WTF not.

Shrooms, LSD, and other halucinogenics could maybe be legalized, but it would probably be a bad scene if half the country was trippin. There would be a ton of crime because of people flipping out on bad trips and stuff. Can you imagine a 10 or 20 thousand people trippin at a Chargers vs. Raiders game or something like that?

I don't think legalizing the harder stuff like meth, crack, herion, coke?(tough one as there are alot of fully functional people who do blow), pcp, etc would be a good either as some of those are so addicting they can ruin lives very fast. Not saying booze can't or doesn't its just some of those hard drugs are just to much.

ALL drugs should be legal, just establish a minimum age just like we do with cigarettes.

BY they way, any of you who use illegal drugs that aren't homegrown are partly responsible for all the violent crime and murder. How many people get killed in Tijuana alone, like 3-4K every year?

Markbone
12-05-2008, 02:55 PM
we need to quit outsorcing our drugs. make them here in the US of A and turn the tables on Colombia, Mexico, etc. then they could pay Us to stop shipping cocaine across the border.

I am all individual freedom's, but there is no way all drugs could be legal. The average american is not smart or responsible enough to handle it.

Having a few thousand people wacked out on PCP running around town would not be fun.

Do you really think that many people would try PCP?

People have free access to glue, canned air, and fermented feces in a jar, but you don't see too many people using those. Most people over 21 have more brains than that. And even if they don't, let them kill themselves, they're inferior anyway.

Homie the problem is that people already do these drugs and they are expensive and illegal. Making them legal would make the more available. Even though Darwin would get a bunch of action its the collateral damage. Wacked out people driving and doing stupid ish and killing others.

shit we have a hard enough time with sober drivers. i dont want to imagine trippin, stoned drivers too.

if anything make all forms of DUI of drugs/alcohol punishment harsher. DUI go to thunderdome. 2 men enter one man leave.

More like Monday Night Rehabilitation.

I agree on real punishment. Ever notice how no one wants to get caught in Phoenix doing illegal ish since the Sheriff setup the tents in the desert. I think that should only be the start. Serious punishment. None of this country club jail shit.

The war on drugs is a joke.

Prohibition showed that an underground will supply any good(s) that are illegal.

Legalize drugs and prostitution, regulate both, and tax it just we like do with tobacco and alcohol now.

Otherwise, we'll just spend money foolishly, versus making money for the treasuries.

I think some people are a little naive on what some drugs really do. If you have seen or felt the effects first hand it gives you a much different perspective on letting ever tom, dick and harry start eating LSD or shrooms or worse and running around town. We have enough problems with people being irresponsible with booze.

500,000 people incarcerated in U.S. prisons and jails for nonviolent drug-law violations; 1.8 million drug arrests last year; tens of billions of taxpayer dollars expended annually to fund a drug war

Huge waste of money..........how can we afford it?
