RIP, Mission Viejo resident.

WESTMINSTER - A 49-year-old motorcyclist involved in a crash that has blocked lanes on both the north and southbound lanes of the 405 freeway has died, authorities said.

Paramedics reported to the crash, just south of the Goldenwest Street exit, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The carpool and far-left lane of the northbound side of the freeway were closed for more than two hours, backing up traffic for miles, said CHP officer Denise Quesada.

The carpool lane on the southbound side of the freeway was also shut down.

CHP officers responded to the area after a motorcyclist, riding a white Suzuki sport bike, was reported to have hit the center divider at 8:14 a.m., Quesada said.

A white Volvo with visible damage was reported to have been involved in the crash as well.

"Whether or not he was swerving to avoid something, or another vehicle is involved, that's unknown at this time," she said.

Details on how the crash occurred were not immediately known, but the driver of the Volvo is believed to have changed lanes into the carpool lane shortly before the crash occurred, said CHP officer Gabe Montoya.

The motorcyclist's identity was not immediately known. He was described only as a Mission Viejo resident.

Lanes were opened at about 10:50 a.m., Montoya said.

I was in that traffic too! It was insane.

Dollars to donuts says a car jumped into the carpool lane. It's funny how people, knowing it's illegal, do this by darting around, as if the half second they saved instead of merging safely will shield them from a policeman's eyes.

I cant tell you how many times every day people jump the DY in/out the carpool lane. Never once seen a CHP out there writing tix for it either. Its a free for all these days.

Especially on the 405 in and abouts that area.

When I commute on the bike I spy the number of occupants in the cars and trucks in the carpool lane. Every third auto has one person in it.

You'd think they'd be all about writing high dollar tickets all day.

That was one of my points. If I had a dollar for every time I witnessed the DY violation alone (forgetting single occupant CP violators)... I would be rich.

This is very sad to hear. RIP.

Drivers who jump the DY scare the heck out of me. They are more dangerous than speeders and should be ticketed as such. But I dont think the driver jumped the DY in this case, at least the pictures before the bike show a broken white line (for entering). Either case, its very sad when I hear about the loss of a fellow rider.

RIP to the fallen rider. I've commuted on that portion of the 405 for almost 10 years. Everytime I get the itch to get another street bike I end up reading one of these and it completely turns me off to the idea.

The driver DIDNT jump the double yellows

this is from another board

I saw a really bad motorcycle crash on the 405 north (just north of beach blvd) around 8:15am.

I heard a big crash (a car pulled inot the carpool lane and he hit the back of the car and the guy then hit the center divider) and then the guy landed about 15 feet back to the side of my car.

I saw a guy down and a GXSR1000 with the front end ripped off and broken frame (broken in 2 pieces)

Oddly enough it was in the section where you could legaly merge.

The Volvo stopped and she was there the entire time. Man, what a thing to have to live with.

A couple of guys with sportbikes stopped also.

I don't know how they got on their bikes and road to work after seeing that...

I stopped and was there for a good 25 minutes. The guy never did regain conciousness and had a very weak pulse when the chp asked me to move my car and I left.

It didn't look good. If you are the praying type, please say a prayer for this guy and his family.

What a sh$%tty way to start the day. Be safe out there people.

Sad deal all the way around. I feel for both families

So, it was a domino effect type accident?

WTF?!!! This guy should be a witness cuz they're making out like it was a single non-fault accident.

I had forwarded this to my co-workers yesterday and just found out this morning that the rider was one of my co-worker's neighbor.

The guy's name is Ray (last name withheld), and leaves 5 kids and his wife. My co-worker was talking to them last night and the family was devastated because the father was such a safe rider. Always advocating safety first and to push on the track, not on the streets. He's been riding all his life (he tracks, dirts, and streets).

I like the fact that I've crashed at over 100 mph and nothing happened.

Viva la track!!!

Unfortunately I witnessed this, as well as that Harley not too long ago. I was no more than 7 ft. away from the body as Police were lifting up a white sheet to inspect the body. Traffic was going like 2mph and I was in the Carpool. Came up on the bike and my stomach sank. Then 40ft or so later came up on the CHP/body/white sheet. I didn't even look under the sheet.

These threads suck IMO (no offense to you Taza). It's bad enough hearing shit on the (bad) News. Yeah, I don't have to read or watch...:2fingercouch:noteeth
