View Full Version : Metric taps, where to buy?
Will a standard place like Home Depot or Lowes carry metric taps, or should I skip those and start looking somewhere that's more of a specialty hardware store?

Lowes does. Which one you need?

If I hadn't procrastinated, I just found a place... www.grainger.com ...a lot like McMaster Carr but not quite as good from what I'm told. I could have done will call and could have picked it up 8 minutes away.
Sears is your friend
Usually is! Looks like I go to the mall tomorrow. I have something to return at Macy's anyway, but I dislike going to the mall, hahah.

That's the one I broke. I sharpened it using the bench grinder, but never used after that. I got that set from Lowes for $40 or so.

Yup...Grainger's
I got a tap and bit combo pack (6mm tap 5mm bit) and a manual tap wrench for $12 (std price). Not bad. Now to see if I f- it up or not. :owneddance

if you need one quickly, ace hardware has them, they use to sell single ones for like $3 (without packaging) but last time i needed one they put them in ziplocs and raised the price to $7 along with the packaged ones. fuckers. i bought one in the package.

For occasional use tapping aluminum or mild steel, the HF taps work fine. Anything harder just buy some high quality taps from McMaster Carr or an industrial hardware store.

McMaster Carr, or MSC Industrial Supply.
