Don't be cheap. :) I currently use the 1000lb ratchet ones bought from Home Depot. Backed up by chains.

These are the cheap ones that failed. Plus you should compress the rear: just hook them into the rearsets. In the front I loop them around the lower triple w/o soft hooks, then put the chain w/ soft hooks. I'll snap a pic of my KTM when I go to Grange.

Tie-down rapture. Though it happened at 95 (oops, sorry, 64.9mph of course), the damage was only limited to the plastics, one mirror, and the fairing stay. the tank got scratched a little and I could just touch up, but decided to replace it. The frame and forks are perfectly straight which I immediately checked at Chassis Dynamics. Good old days when Dave C. was still in business.

By rapture I presume you mean rupture. Or were your tie-downs really that religious?

btw the bike sit on the back of the truck though
I use the tie downs with the built in loops and then use carribiners (sp?) as triple security.
With the MotoTote, you MUST use the pegs and route a tie down under the main rail to compress the rear suspension.
I just use 3 tie downs and have yet to have any issues carrying any of my bikes.
